Silly Star Poem at PUP for my Son the Monkey

You might have noticed that the Monkey Prodigy has been doing more and more videos lately, including some pretty fun poems. So I tried to read this one in his style.

So often when the family is enjoying a day together Micah finds a pen and paper to write down some of the crazy things we say, “quotes of the day” we call them.  They are usually just random punch lines, non sequiturs, or faulty replies to misheard questions. If we don’t write them down, I guess we fear that we’ll forget. That’s something the young writer and his father have in common, a desire to capture the fun and remember it, rejoice in it and pass it along.  We don’t always get the chance to do anything with them, except try to save them as evidence of our family’s insanity, but sometimes they become fodder for stories and poems. Like this poem for instance.

Micah couldn’t be at this Poetry Under the Paintings (PUP) event, and so I put this embarrassingly dramatic and silly reading up for his benefit, and so that he can groan and hide his head when his friends, nudge him and say, “Hey! Isn’t that weird guy your dad?”

Oh yes, and that beautiful young man playing the keyboard is non other than my partner, BPK from the WBarreguy channel on YouTube. He says he has a lot of work to do on perfecting his channel, but then he always says that, but please go visit him anyway, and don’t tell him I gave you the link.  😉 One of my favorite features there right now is the Stevie Nicks playlist.

I have been listening to his videos, and tried to read it Micah style. I hope he realizes that imitation is a form of flattery.

It was fun to do. I love the interaction with Monkey Prodigy, of course. And thank you and your delightful husband for coming down to the Midtown Scholar reading tonight! It really gave me a boost!

  5. Good reading. I really hadn’t practiced the spaghetti poem reading or anything of the sort. But I’ll figure out how to perfect my own style eventually. Honestly, I think the best part of this reading is the music that goes along with it. What a mood setter! Maybe I should add intense background music to my videos. Ya think so?

Thank you, Mr. M! I didn’t practice this reading either. But I liked so much how you read the spaghetti piece, the time poem and others. I just thought it would be fun to try reading with that much animation. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, so what does that say about how I see you? You betcha. I think you rock. 🙂

Oh, and I agree, the musician really made me sound good! 😉
