I Know It’s Only Monday, but Take a Break Already

I am lucky enough to have been able to arrange a couple of paid time off days before Thanksgiving, but while my fellow countrymen and city-women are enjoying turkey, I’ll be back at it and working hard on Thursday.  And while I’m taking this break to tidy up the house and start preparing for winter, I also need to just, well, take a break for Pete’s sake!

Part of my taking a break from the job that pays the bills means more time for the artistic work I love. But after working late into the night-strike that-into the early morning hours on the video production for the last of three fortune cookie poetry posts, I need to go crash before shopping, and taking a break with some friends and live music at a local tavern later tonight.

Maybe you’ve started your Monday at the office, or the store, the bank. Wherever you are I leave the world to you then this morning. Please make sure it keeps turning. Then again, if you can make the damned thing stop for a few minutes that would be helpful to both of us, that is unless that means messing up the planet on some sort of cosmic day-the-earth-stood-still level.

In any case, make sure you make it a plan to not work yourself to death this week. Seriously, I get the fact that we need to be productive and not waste our time, but it’s also true that we need not waste ourselves. We will be no use to anyone if we are not well rested and healthy. How do we take care of the world properly, I ask you, if we refuse to take care of ourselves, or if we let others prevent us from doing so?

The good folks at LearnStuff.com have provided some colorful, helpful tips and thought-provoking facts in the graphic below to encourage you to get away from your chair, go for a jog, take a cat nap, and eat lunch somewhere other than at your desk. It’s worth reading. And hey, it could actually save your life.

So Take a Break. Until later today, be good to yourself. Well. Actually, I want you to be good to yourself even after later today, but, yeah. You know what I mean; see ya later.

Funny, once I have such a break, the time to do some housework and “nesting” is actually more appealing and less work-ish itself. 🙂 Thanks!

  2. In addition to taking much-needed breaks, we all need to take naps regularly. Then we won’t be so grouchy.

Oh, there should be a naps post! Naps are our friends, I agree. My friend Ann and I are talking about writing nap poems. . . we need to get on that.

      But first, a nap.

While I’m waiting between jobs, I spend most days sitting on my ass in front of the television. Today, I took a break by repainting the bathroom and staining the back porch. It was great.
