Live Reading in Scranton Tonight

writers showcase 2Why do I sometimes forget that there are people in the blogging world that actually are not that far away from where I live now? I’m so used to being in touch with people globally from a tiny town in Central Pennsylvania. But now I’m in the North East corner of the state, closer to New York, closer to Philadelphia, and the population up here in the Wyoming Valley (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area) is huge in comparison to where I lived in October.

So just in case you are reading this from somewhere nearby today, I want to let you know that I’ll be one of five writers reading at the Writer’s Showcase at the Olde Brick Theatre in Scranton tonight. The last time I read in this area of the state was at Scranton’s Zine Fest in 2014. This venue is a great little theater that was packed in October when my son Micah and I came up to hear the poets read. It’s a dynamic ongoing project, hosted by Dawn Leas and my friend Brian Fanelli. You might have seen links to his blog, and his poems here before. If not, please check him out. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for this guy, and his very working-class, street level poetry. It gets me in the heart and in the gut.

In June of 2014 I had the honor of appearing in Contemporary American Voices alongside Brian and one of the other readers tonight, Jason Allen. And I’m very much looking forward to getting to know some of the work of the rest of the line-up tonight also. Electric City has a sweet little article about the event you might check out as well. If you can’t make it to this on such short notice, be sure to check out The Writer’s Showcase in future months!

I count myself a fortunate fella, and dang, I’m a bit nervous!

    1. Micah and I went out looking for migrating waterfowl. There are woodlands nearby. I just have to travel a bit further to get to them sometimes. It’s been a good weekend, and overall we are doing really well. Thanks, Kristine!

  4. David, I’m happy to hear that you are finding outlets and venues for your poetry. First, the San Pedro River Review, now reading live at the Writer’s Showcase. It’s a two-hour drive for me, but if you have something happening again in the future, let me know in advance. I’ll combine coming to see you and Brian and the new place with attending any future events. I truly love your poetry. Thank so much for the link to Brian Fanelli. I’ll check him out. I’m on a kick to read more poetry than I have in the past. You’ll be great tonight, nervous or not. Love ya my friend.

    1. Thank you, Steve! There must have been a lot of good vibes heading my way because it went really well. I’m still tickled that Karen got that issue of SPRR, and that you guys were reading from it at Cross Keys! More of this in the future for all of us I hope. Thanks for your support, and hopefully will see you soon! I will be reading at Priestley Chapel the first Sunday of April, so maybe I will see you then!
