My son, Micah pointed out to me recently that I have a poetry event going on every seven days this month. But when I took stock of my calendar, I saw there’s a lot more than that going on. I went ahead and updated my Events page as well.
So here is my Poetry Month for you:
April 5 – 8: Micah and I go on a poetry/nature retreat in the north woods, near Coudersport, PA. It’s been ranked in the top ten “Dark Spots” in the world—yes, I said world (the plan was stargazing, but the cloud forecast is being stubborn).
April 10: Poetry Reading at the West Pittston Library, West Pittston, PA with Dawn Leas and Erin L. Delaney. Refreshments provided, open mic after. Starts at 6:00 pm.
April 20: Poetry Reading with guest star, Micah James Bauman at my old stomping grounds, Annie Halenbake Ross Library in Lock Haven, PA at 1:00 pm.
April 27: (Possible) Reading with my old (not so old) Poetry Under the Paintings peeps at the Lewisburg Arts Festival in Lewisburg, PA. 10 am at the gazebo.
April 28: Not reading, but enjoying the poems at the Voices of Poetry with Gloves Off event at Ike’s and Randy’s Boxing Gym, 98 Park Avenue, Paterson, NJ, hosted by Neil Silberblatt and Elizabeth Estella (ya need to RSVP for this one—I’ll include links in the comments) from 1 PM – 3 PM.
April 30: Poems at the Pub returns! We’re hosting the contributors to Down the Dog Hole, 11 Poets on Northeast Pennsylvania. As usual, this is at the marvelous Dugan’s Pub in Luzerne, PA at 7:00 pm, followed by an open mic.
And for a bonus round, just a short few steps into May we have:
May 5: At 9:30 am, I’ll be the featured poet at First Sunday service of music and the spoken word at Priestly Chapel, Northumberland, PA.
And not only are we going from Lock Haven to Lewisburg to NEPA to Paterson and back to NEPA (whew, we’re going to need that long weekend in the woods and Easter break!), but the diversity of locations is just marvelous: Two public libraries, a historic chapel, a pub, an outdoor gazebo, and a boxing gym!
So, friends, I am sorry to report that we are not doing a recording challenge this year. But you will hear more recordings from us soon. Are you doing anything special for Poetry Month? Don’t worry, I won’t roll my eyes at you for saying “Every month is poetry month,” if you promise not to be a dick to me about taking people up on these opportunities to do my thing. Either way, let’s talk in the comments!
Best of luck with everything!

It was wonderful, John! I don’t know how I missed this comment. I guess because we were in the woods! 🙂 We had one excellent night of star gazing and several good birding days. Lots of photo opportunities, old abandoned buildings in the woods and that sort of thing. I’ll have to do a post with some photos.
